Celebrations of the 90th Anniversary of PGI
On May 14th and 15th, in Warsaw, the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the Polish Geological Institute (PGI) took place. The jubilee celebrations, opened by the PGI´s Director – Doc. dr. hab. Jerzy Nawrocki, were attended by a number of distinguished guests from Poland and abroad, representing ministries, scientific institutions, private companies, academia as well as 10 European Geological Surveys. The ceremony took place in the Geological Museum of PGI. One of the sessions was to commemorate Sir Pawel Edmund Strzelecki (1797-1873) – an outstanding Polish geologist, traveler, pioneer explorer of Australia, and other parts of the world. On this occasion, the EuroGeoSurveys President – Prof. John Nicolas Ludden delivered a presentation “Mapping out the Future: Geological cartography in the British Geological Survey from times of P. E. Strzelecki to modern 3D and 4D geological modeling” (Photo 2). After the official part the guests and participants enjoyed the picnic in the PGI´s gardens.
On May 15th an international conference “Geobridge – Eastern Partnership” was held. The presentations were delivered by the representatives of the Geological Surveys of Belarus, Poland and Ukraine as well as the EuroGeoSurveys Secretary General - Mr Luca Demicheli (Photos 3 and 4).
