Commission opens consultation on Integrated Maritime Policy in the Mediterranean
The Commission has launched an open consultation aimed at gathering stakeholders' views on how the Integrated Maritime Policy should contribute to the development of the Mediterranean area and how it could bring concrete results and added value to the EU’s relationship with its Mediterranean partners. The consultation will collect information on the perception Mediterranean stakeholders have about the Integrated Maritime Policy and the way that maritime affairs are managed in their respective countries, as well as their expectations of the new policy. The consultation will help the Commission to develop, over the coming months, a strategy for the Integrated Maritime Policy in the Mediterranean region, which will focus on how synergies and positive interactions can be developed between existing and planned initiatives pertaining to maritime matters. The strategy will take into account the overarching policy frameworks that exist for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, such as the European Neighbourhood Policy, the Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean, and other ongoing sectoral dialogues and fora.Closing date of consultation is 27.07.2008.
