Eastern Partnership Summit to strengthen EU links with Eastern Europe and South Caucasus
The first Eastern Partnership (EaP) summit in Prague on 7 May will gather leaders from the EU Member States, EU institutions and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to launch this new framework of reinforced bilateral and multilateral cooperation. This ambitious initiative will lead to deepening of political and economic relations, more energy security, increased mobility and will give an additional boost to pro-democratic and market oriented reforms in the partner countries.
The summit was organized as an initiative of Poland and Sweden under the Czech EU presidency. It focuses on such issue, relevant to the activities of the Geological Surveys, as environment and climate change, convergence with EU policies, energy security, economic integration, natural disasters preparedness and prevention. Already now about 600 million Euros are available to finance the Eastern Partnership programme and more funds are expected to be made available within the coming months.
