European Minerals Day 2009 has launched its official website
The European Minerals Day (EMD) is a pan-European initiative celebrated on the national and European levels. Its second edition organized this year is supported by EuroGeoSurveys. In 2009 special attention will be given to biodiversity. During a guided visit of rehabilitated areas, visitors may come across rare plant and animal species. This and many more activities are aimed at raising awareness of this old, yet innovative and sustainable sector. Entertaining side activities such as fossil hunting, animations for children, jeep safaris, workshops etc. To get more information about the events organized in your country please refer to the website.
The initiative will be officially launched on May 14th, 2009 in the presence of Mr Günter Verheugen, European Commission Vice-President and Commissioner for Enterprise & Industry. The Launch Ceremony will take place at a quarry site in the Czech Republic, coinciding with the country's Presidency of the European Union (see press release for more details).
