    This course focuses on the geological characteristics of the main gold deposit types, their hydrothermal alteration patterns, and the processes that produce them. The topics include geological settings and controls on mineralization, hydrothermal minerals and their zonation, precious-metal transport and deposition, spatial and temporal scales of mineralizing processes, exploration strategies, and case studies. The instructors are international experts on the geology of gold and the authors of many papers on such, including lead authors of the authoritative papers in the 100th Anniversary Volume of Economic Geology on epithermal and orogenic gold deposits. The course is suitable for economic geologists in industry and academia who want more detail on present-day important aspects of these ore deposit types.
