Introduction

EuroGeoSurveys is an organisation of 32 European Geological Surveys. Our statutory aims are to address the European issues, to promote contribution of geosciences to EU affairs, to assist EU to obtain technical advice and to provide a network between the geological surveys. Introduction - more

Geohazards

From the EuroGeoSurveys Members :

  • International Center for Geohazards

The International Centre for Geohazards (ICG) carries out research on the assessment, prevention and mitigation of geohazards, including risk of landslide in soil and rock due to rainfall, flooding, earthquakes and human intervention, and the geological risks in deep waters, especially underwater slides. The Centre also contributes to the education of researchers and specialists in these fields.

  • IGOS Geohazards Initiative

The IGOS Geohazards Initiative intends to respond to the scientific and operational geospatial information needs for the prediction and monitoring of geophysical hazards, namely earthquakes, volcanoes and land instability.

  • From European Institutions :

  • Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES)

GMES is a European initiative for the implementation of information services dealing with environment and security. GMES will be based on observation data received from Earth Observation satellites and ground based information. These data will be coordinated, analysed and prepared for end-users. Through GMES the state of our environment and its short, medium and long-term evolution will be monitored to support policy decisions or investments. GMES is a set of services for European citizens helping to improve their quality of life regarding environment and security. GMES will be built up gradually: it starts with a pilot phase which targets the availability of a first set of operational GMES services by 2008 followed by the development of an extended range of services which meet user requirements.

  • From EU projects :

  • Terrafirma

Welcome to the home of Terrafirma, an ESA GMES project aimed at saving lives, improving safety and reducing economic loss by using the latest technology to measure terrain motion from satellite radar data. Using these data, and in conjunction with national geoscience organisations, the project provides a pan-European ground motion hazard information service in each of the 25 member states of the EU.
