Geology Worldwide
From EU projects :
AEGOS project aims at setting-up the preparatory phase for the building of an information system containing and making accessible data and knowledge on African geological resources including mineral resources, raw material, groundwater and energy (georesources). This information is/has been collected through numerous initiatives by both African countries, regional, international and European organisations collectively, and is a unique archive of Africa related geoscientific observation data which primarily need to be shared with African partners. Developing capacity building activities in the domain of Earth observation in developing countries is a priority.
The Atlas will review the entire Southern Permian Basin Area, covering the British, Dutch, German, Danish and Polish sectors. The area under review extends from eastern England to the Russian-Polish border and is situated between latitudes 50 and 56 degrees North. The Atlas will address the geologic evolution and hydrocarbon potential per stratigraphic interval. The paleogeographic and tectonic evolution will be covered within the framework of the principal stratigraphic intervals, from the Precambrian basement to the Holocene. The various structural and stratigraphic settings will be elucidated by a thorough set of field examples, overview maps and illustrations. In addition, petroleum generation, migration, trapping and production as well as the history of exploration and licensing in the basin will be covered, together with a summary of resource assessments. Other potential options for use of the deep subsurface such as gas storage and geothermal aspects will also be addressed. The content of the Atlas will be generated through contributions from high-level international experts, surveys and petroleum exploration companies.
From academia, research institutions and international associations :
The mission of the IAMG is to promote, worldwide, the advancement of mathematics, statistics and informatics in the Geosciences.
International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG/AIG) is a scientific, non-governmental and non-profit organisation, whose principal objectives are development and promotion of geomorphology as a science through international co-operation and dissemination of knowledge of geomorphology. The IAG/AIG was founded at the Second International Conference on Geomorphology in Frankfurt/Main (Germany) in 1989 in order to strengthen international geomorphology. IAG/AIG fulfils its aims through the establishment of working groups and task forces, organisation of conferences, publication activity and information exchange. Membership of the IAG/AIG is normally by countries. At present, 58 countries are affiliated to the IAG/AIG through their National Scientific Members. The activity of the IAG/AIG is steered by its Executive Committee.
From World Wide Web :
OneGeology is an international initiative of the geological surveys of the world and a flagship project of the 'International Year of Planet Earth'. Its aim is to create dynamic geological map data of the world available via the web. This will create a focus for accessing geological information for everyone. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of participating nations the initiative has progressed rapidly and geological surveys and the many users of their data are excited about this ground-breaking project. These pages provide a background to the initiative as well as up to date information on its progress. We invite you to explore the site and we welcome you to OneGeology. Enjoy your visit!
In 2008, the Faculty of Geosciences started the Geotruck Project. The Geotruck is an interactive mobile classroom where secondary school students from Dutch and Belgian schools take part in a game, the Earth Quest game, where six teams of students compete with each other and against time.
