    This workshop aims at discussing the potential uses of Earth Observation to achieve and monitor the Sustainable Development Goals in cities. The workshop will introduce the audience to the newly released Earth Observations Toolkit for Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements.

    Two use cases from the Toolkit will be showcased by local and regional administrations, who will explain how they themselves use the Toolkit to monitor their progresses towards urban sustainability, focusing in particular on SDG 11 and how EO is integrated in daily and planning routines. Moreover, the workshop will deliver a hands-on introduction on two portals making available EO data and services for cities. The audience will be actively involved in the workshop, will receive background materials beforehand and will be engaged into Q&A sessions and live surveys to provide feedback on the presented contents.

    The next edition of the Clean Energy Summit will be taking place on the 29th of March 2022.

    Fighting climate change and accomplishing a clean and just energy transition are the biggest challenges of the 21st century and a big part of the European Green Deal, which intends to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, notably through the Fit for 55 Package, published in July 2021. Halfway between COP 26 and COP 27, the summit will highlight policy, business, and academia’s priorities regarding the clean energy transition in Europe.

    The new "Fit for 55" package aims to put the EU on track towards climate neutrality. Energy accounts for 75% of GHG emissions. Speeding up the energy transition is critical. In 2022, the World Sustainable Energy Days (WSED) present the far-reaching transformation of policies, technologies and markets for achieving climate neutrality, and how to raise the pace of change. The WSED are a leading annual conference on the energy transition and climate neutrality with more than 650 participants from over 60 countries.

    The LIFE Programme will participate in the WSED 2022 in Wels, Austria, from 5 to 8 April. LIFE Programme will have a poster presentation and a dedicated stand in the exhibition hall.

    The General Assembly 2022 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) will take place 23-27 May 2022 in Vienna, Austria. The purpose of the EGU General Assembly 2022 will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. It aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience. The last two General Assemblies, Sharing Geoscience Online in 2020 and vEGU21: Gather Online, were organized as virtual meetings due to the COVID-related restrictions. In 2022, the EGU aims to provide again an on-site experience for those attending physically, while at the same time developing new concepts to include virtual attendees as much as possible. The EGU General Assembly 2022 (EGU22) will be a conference with a virtual component where everybody is welcome, in person or online!
