Pan-African Support to Geological Sciences and Technology Africa-EU Partnership (PanAfGeo-2)

“PanAfGeo” for “Pan-African Support to the EuroGeoSurveys – Organisation of African Geological Surveys (EGS-OAGS) Partnership”, is a project which supports the training of geoscientific staff from African Geological Surveys through the development of an innovative training programme that includes the acquisition and development of important professional skills that complement their technical ones and qualifications. The training programme is implemented by world-class geoscientific experts coming both from African and European Geological Surveys.

PanAfGeo-2 is a continuation of the well-established PanAfGeo Project. The PanAfGeo-2 actions are based on and implemented through trainings done in different geoscientific domains. The PanAfGeo-2 allows trainees to acquire state-of-the-art tools, methods and experienced knowledge in 8 geoscientific skills. The project supports the training of geoscientific staff from African Geological Surveys through the diversity of innovative training methods. These trainings will be delivered in face-to-face form, field trips and on-the-job sessions, depending on the respective thematic areas.

PanAfGeo-2 also aims to support capacity building at the political, institutional and technical level in Africa by focusing on georesources governance and, at a management level, by involving of senior African geoscientists and leaders to improve the functioning of the overall system at national, continental and international level, in particular by boosting Africa-EU synergies. All activities of PanAfGeo-2 shall reinforce the governance and sustainable management of georesources within the African-EU Partnership.

PanAfGeo-2 covers the entirety of the African continent with a specific focus on those countries that are rich in mineral resources. The project is addressed to the Organisation of African Geological Surveys (OAGS) and its member organisations as well as relevant governmental bodies such as mining authorities and geological research bodies (e.g. universities, research centres).

PanAfGeo-2 is implemented through a project consortium, coordinated by the Geological Survey of France (BRGM), and including 11 European Geological Surveys and EuroGeoSurveys. Together with the Organisation of African Geological Surveys and African Geological Surveys. PanAfGeo-2 is co-funded by the European Commission (Directorate-General of International Partnerships).
